Wembley beckons once again as Manchester City prepare to face Crystal Palace in the 144th FA Cup final on Saturday — a familiar stage for a side that’s been a dominant force in English football under Pep Guardiola.
City, aiming to lift the historic trophy for the eighth time, know the highs and lows of this competition all too well. Just last season, they suffered a painful defeat in the final to rivals Manchester United — but now they return with unfinished business.
Pep Guardiola, speaking ahead of the clash, made City’s intent crystal clear:
“Of course we have to perform well. We travel to London and we will try to win the title… We want to win for our fans. The guys who travel, I want to say thank you for coming to London.”
City last won the FA Cup in 2022–23, defeating United at Wembley, and will be looking to cap off a disappointing season by reclaiming the silverware.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace arrive as underdogs, hunting their first-ever major trophy. Managed by Oliver Glasner, the Eagles will have the backing of many neutrals hoping for a fairytale ending — but City fans know all too well how Pep’s side respond when silverware is on the line.
Glasner himself acknowledged the gap in pedigree:
“City, I don’t know how many trophies they’ve won and finals they have played in under Pep. It’s definitely more than Crystal Palace.”
Team News
