Manchester City eased into the Club World Cup knockout rounds with a commanding 5–2 win over Juventus in Orlando.
Trailing the Italians at the top of their group before kick-off, City needed a result. They got it in style, turning the table and booking their place in the last 16.
The draw wasn’t confirmed until a couple of hours after City had left the pitch, but a Real Madrid win later in the evening ensured Juve would face them next. For City, it’s Al Hilal.
The Saudi side edged out Pachuca after Salzburg’s loss to Madrid opened the door. That means a meeting with João Cancelo, now lining up for Hilal, and a familiar face in Rúben Neves, once of Wolves.
Kick-off in Orlando is set for 9pm local time next Monday (2am Tuesday in the UK).
If City come through that, they’ll take on either Inter or Fluminense in the quarter-finals on Friday 5 July, also in Orlando. That one’s scheduled for 3pm local (8pm UK).
There’s history with both. City saw off Inter in Istanbul to win the 2023 Champions League. Later that year, they dismantled Fluminense in the Club World Cup final under the old format of the competition.
