City’s early exit from the Club World Cup — a 4–3 defeat to Al-Hilal after extra time — ended a short, disappointing campaign in the United States. The squad has now been given time off before preparations for the new season, kicking off at Molineux on 16th August.

Hugo Viana, recently appointed sporting director, is already overseeing an overhaul. Eight new signings have arrived since January, costing around £280 million.

Further additions are expected this summer, but only if City can move players on. Those left out of the CWC squad are facing uncertain futures.

According to the Daily Mail, the club will hold discussions with several well-known names over the coming weeks. A number of departures are expected before the window closes at the end of August.

Speaking after the tournament exit, Guardiola admitted decisions lie ahead.

“We’ve got a big squad. We’ll see what happens,” he said. “It’s not easy. I don’t know yet who will go — we’ll speak to the players and the club. But the Premier League is coming fast. It’s a long season. Things change quickly.”

The manager also acknowledged frustration at leaving players out.

“I’m disappointed for many of them. Some deserved minutes but didn’t get them.”

Jack Grealish appears among the likeliest to leave. Omitted from the Club World Cup squad and with only seven league starts last season, he has slipped down the order. Guardiola hasn’t ruled out keeping him, but hinted a move would suit all sides. Villa, Everton and Spurs are said to be watching developments closely.

Kyle Walker is also expected to go, though AC Milan — where he had a brief loan spell — are not pursuing a permanent deal. A return to Sheffield United would be the most obvious destination, but the Blades' failure to secure promotion to the Premier League has put that move on hold.

Both Ederson and Ilkay Gundogan want to stay, but face ongoing speculation. Saudi clubs are said to be interested in the goalkeeper. Galatasaray have been linked with Gundogan, who turns 35 in October.

John Stones remains committed to staying, though injuries have limited his involvement. He hasn’t featured since February. Nathan Aké could also follow him out if the right offer comes in.

Kalvin Phillips is set to leave, but Achilles surgery in May has complicated matters and his destination is also uncertain.
