The 17-year-old midfielder joins Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli in Pep Guardiola's revamped squad.
Aston Villa had been frontrunners for Nypan's signature until recently. The Athletic reported recently that the Birmingham outfit held winter discussions with the teenager before he opted to remain in Norway's top flight. Villa remained keen on securing personal terms and finalising a summer switch for the playmaker.
Arsenal too had also circled Nypan, identifying him as an ideal understudy to Ødegaard in the creative department.
The numbers speak volumes about Nypan's potential. Already valued at more than £10 million, he broke into Rosenborg's first team in 2022 aged just 15. Only six players in Norwegian football history have debuted younger, with Ødegaard holding the record as the youngest ever.
His precocious talent became evident in May 2023 when he netted his first league goal at 16 years and 145 days old, becoming Rosenborg's youngest ever scorer. The milestone marked him out as something special in Scandinavian football.
Nypan's statistics for a teenager are remarkable. Across 70-plus first-team appearances, he has registered 14 goals and 11 assists. In league competition alone, he averages a goal contribution every 178 minutes – exceptional output for a central midfielder still in his teens.
